Senate Bill 97 Wants Cultural Competency

Senate Bill 97 passed the Oregon Senate this week, and is now on its way to the House.  The Bill directs the Oregon Health Authority to establish cultural competency standards for medical care of minority groups.
The Urban League of Portland conducted a study in 2009, called the State of Black Oregon.  The report found that, overall, inequities in Oregon's medical care system exist, particularly when it comes to differing cultures and ethnicities.

KBOO's Sarina Fong Spoke with Andrew Riley, the Public Policy Director of the Center for Intercultural Organizing.
