Tacoma Teachers Begin Picketing
Hundreds of teachers in Washington State’s third largest school district picketed in front of the city’s major high schools today, hours after they voted to walk out of classrooms in Tacoma. Teachers picketed at the city’s five major high schools all day today. Issues in dispute include pay, class size and the way the district’s teachers are transferred and reassigned. The Tacoma School District plans to seek an immediate injunction to terminate the strike today, contending that the strike is illegal.
KBOO’s Jenka Soderberg spoke with Rich Wood of the Tacoma Teacher’s Union about the strike.
