Host Glen Andresen and co-pilot Jim Gilbert are back in the KBOO studio for a live January show. The sources for fruiting shrubs and trees are immense. But not all plants are really appropriate for, and won't thrive in, our region. We'll have some tips on what to look for and questions to ask? Plus, we've entered prime dormant pruning time, so what should you prune now? And, how about keeping a gardening journal this year, or at least taking notes, so you can better remember what you did and what worked and what didn't?
As always, we'll have a new Plant of the Month (almonds ) and a new Garden Stumper--the first listener who calls in with the correct answer gets a free sharpening of a gardening hand tool from Cully Farm Store in Northeast Portland. Our musical theme this month is a continuation of the tribute to three musicians who died in 2025 that had an impact on Glen. Plus, our Dirtbag Dictionary term is "disease resistant." And finally, what Glen is trying to understand this month.
Don't forget, if you have a gardening question, and don't want to call in, you can always email us at thedirtbag@kboo.org -- we'll answer your question on the air during the next show. And, surprise, this is the same email to use to answer The Garden Stumper if you don't want to call in.
The Dirtbag, a garden variety show... Listen. Laugh. Learn.
